Grange Park Opera - Theatre in the Woods
The Theatre in the Woods has brought a touch of Italy to West Horsley in Surrey. The doors of Grange Park Opera’s spectacular new opera house opened in time for its first performance, La Tosca, in June 2017. Francis Joinery was delighted to be part of this stunning project.
The new theatre is inspired by the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, one of the world’s most celebrated theatres. It stands within the 300 year old grounds of West Horsley Place. The Theatre is the first opera house to be built in the UK in the 21st Century.
Phase 1 involved the bespoke joinery of all external doors, the internal box doors, curved handrailing and the gold and silver leafing of two internal doors. The £80k project was completed within 9 weeks.
Phase 2 further developed the project by adding cladding to the theatre externals and revamping the staircases and all floors.
The theatre focuses on inclusivity by providing educational and cultural activities for all ages with a particular emphasis on encouraging interest from younger generations.
