Royal Holloway University of London - Accessibility Ramp
Robust ramp within a Grade I listed building located in a busy educational campus.
A new accessibility ramp in the North Tower of Royal Holloway University’s Egham Hill campus provides access to the chapel and picture gallery of the Founders’ building.
The challenge was to fulfil the brief requirement of being able to carry a 32- onne fire service vehicle. The team stepped up to the challenge, developing a suitable design which comprised a substantial steel superstructure decked in 75mm European oak.
The new ramp had to be installed in a small window of three weeks. Communicating plans to the stakeholders involved helped gain confidence and support during the shutdown.
Practical completion was achieved on the scheduled date ready to handover for important functions in the university’s calendar.
